About Oakland
One of the San Francisco Bay Area's most central cities, Oakland is a bastion of culture and business. Just north of Berkeley, Oakland lies at the eastern side of the Bay Bridge, and its diverse population played a central role in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. In the heart of Alameda County, Oakland is the third largest city in the Bay Area. While Oakland is well-known for its urban qualities, the city is also home to some of California's most beautiful natural parks and quaint suburbs.
